There are many different sports available in Rotterdam whether you want to play or just spectate.

Starting with the most popular sport as you know. Rotterdam has three Football teams they are Sparta Rotterdam which is the oldest of the three clubs and the only Rotterdam club. Second is Feyenoord which of course is the main and most well known of the three teams as they are the current Dutch champions and recently featured in the European Champions league.  Third is Excelsior they are owned by Feyenoord and mainly used as a nursery team to bring through talented youngsters to play for Feyenoord, you will also find that players recovering from injury will also play there.

Skate boarding.

This is very popular in Rotterdam amongst people of all ages (mainly teens).  Their is an  outdoor skateboarding arena where if you prefer you can use Rollerblades. This arena is situated in Beurs, which is only a few minutes away from the central station via the Metro system. This arena is also free of charge.

Baseball

For sporting fans who prefer something American you can go to the Baseball stadium which is highly recommended even for people who have not watched the sport before. Also situated next to the stadium are Football pitches, a Rugby pitch and a baseball pitch if you prefer to play these sports. There is a small charge to play on these pitches but they are ideal for training matches or even one off matches between friends.  They are also flood lighted so you can play at night. The site also has a cafe/bar where food and beverages can be purchased.

OUTDOOR SPORTS

If you enjoy outdoor sports like Canoeing,Climbing,Water Cycling,Swimming,Mountain Biking everything is possible in the Recreation area (The Rottemeren). For people who enjoy Surfing, Sailing,Rowing and Swimming there is the ZEVENHUIZER PLAS. Its a small lake 1.5 kilometer long and 600 meters wide. It is easy to reach with Bus 175 from the Central Station to the stop WOLLEFOPPENWEG in Oud Verlaat.

Walking is also possible and is loverly in the "LAGE BERGSE BOS" A small woody nature area. There is a walking map avalible to and you can also relax in the centre of the park in the pavilion'DE BERGSE PLAS'.A special attraction are the "Scottish Highlands", Friendly, Longhaired Cows, who take care of the natural development of the enviroment, It can be reached with Bus 170,171,172 and 173, Stop Grindweg in Bergschenhoek.
